Personality Disorders

First defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as diagnosable illnesses in 1980, personality disorders represent extremes of normal personality characteristics and can cause distress and interfere with a person's quality of life. Symptoms vary depending on the specific type of personality disorder. Treatment typically involves talk therapy and in some circumstances, medication.
