The White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives was established to strengthen and expand the role of faith-based and community organizations in addressing the nation's social problems.  One of its primary goals to to allow faith-based organizations to compete on an equal basis for Federal dollars.

Centers for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives have been created in seven cabinet departments - the United States Departments of Justice, Agriculture, Labor, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Education and the Agency for International Development.

This White House Initiative strives to support organizations that serve people in need, particularly those serving the following populations:

• At-risk youth
• Ex-offenders
• Homeless and hungy
• Substance abusers
• Persons with HIV/AIDS
• Welfare-to-work families

Resources for groups seeking Federal funds include Internet resources located at www.fbci.gov , legal guidance, and free training and technical assistance available through the Compassion Capital fund located at www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ccf .
