Xylazine, a non-opioid veterinary sedative not approved for human use, has been linked to an increasing number of overdose deaths nationwide in the evolving drug addiction and overdose crisis. While some people use it to extend the effects of a drug, such as fentanyl, others use it unknowingly as it is often combined with other drugs.
