Cessation Resources for LGBTQIA+ Patients
Some LGBTQIA+ patients may be ready to quit smoking, vaping, or using other tobacco products. Others may feel ambivalent about quitting, especially if they:
Enjoy smoking or vaping (e.g., pleasure)
Enjoy smoking or vaping with peers (e.g., connection)
Internalized their use as part of their identity
Use smoking or vaping to manage feelings of stress, anxiety, or depression
Believe they lack the resources needed to quit
T2U has developed two patient handouts to help LGBTQIA+ patients explore and plan for feelings of ambivalence.
Thinking about Quitting Smoking or Vaping? acknowledges quitting can be tough; reassures LGBTQIA+ patients that they don't have to do it alone; offers reasons for quitting; and refers LGBTQIA+ youth and adults to free and confidential quit services in Connecticut.

My Quit, My Plan helps LGBTQIA+ patients plan their quit by prompting them to identify a quit date; their reasons for and concerns about quitting; potential triggers and their plans for dealing with them; their strengths; and the resources they will use to support them on their quit journey.

In addition, the Connecticut Tobacco Cessation Program Directory has been created by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and includes the program names, locations, and contact information for community-based tobacco cessation programs across Connecticut.
